Why the studio matters more than the logo on the lobby
Casinos do not make their games. They rent them from studios, and the same title appears on hundreds of sites at once. What changes from one studio to the next is the thing you actually feel when you play: how often the reels pay, how big the swings are, whether the bonus round is a slow build or a single cliff edge.
So the most useful question is not 'which casino has the most games' but 'which studios suit the way I play'. Answer that and a lobby of four thousand titles shrinks to the forty worth your time.
The eight, in one line each
| Studio | Style in a sentence | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Pragmatic Play | Huge output, tumbling grids and multipliers, a release almost every week | Gates of Olympus |
| Evolution | The live-casino giant: real dealers, and game shows built like television | Crazy Time |
| Play'n GO | Clean, readable slots and the adventure series that made its name | Book of Dead |
| NetEnt | The polished veteran whose classics defined online slots | Starburst |
| Hacksaw Gaming | Stark art, brutal volatility, prizes in the tens of thousands | Wanted Dead or a Wild |
| Nolimit City | Dark themes and some of the most extreme maths in the business | Its own profile page |
| Blueprint Gaming | British high-street favourites and TV-branded titles | Fishin' Frenzy |
| Big Time Gaming | The inventors of Megaways, where the number of ways changes every spin | Its own profile page |
Who owns whom
The industry has consolidated. Evolution, the live-dealer company, bought NetEnt (and with it Red Tiger) in 2020, Big Time Gaming in 2021 and Nolimit City in 2022, so four of the eight studios above now sit in one group while keeping their own names and styles. Blueprint belongs to the German Gauselmann group. Knowing this explains why some mechanics start turning up across studios that used to be rivals.
Reading a studio's style in ten spins
- Hit rate. Count the spins that return anything at all. Low-volatility studios pay something every three or four spins; the harsh ones can go twenty without a line.
- Where the money sits. In some games most of the return is in the base game; in others almost all of it waits in the bonus round.
- The top prize. A game quoting 5,000 times the stake behaves very differently from one quoting 50,000. The bigger the ceiling, the rarer the ordinary wins.
- The help screen. Every game lists its RTP there. If the figure is lower than the studio's headline number, you are on a reduced version.
Free demos make this cheap to learn. The general rules for slots are on online slots in Ireland, and the thirteen most-asked-about titles are on popular casino games.

Frequently asked questions
Which game provider is best for slots?
It depends on how you like to play. Play'n GO and NetEnt suit players who want readable, steadier games; Pragmatic Play sits in the middle; Hacksaw Gaming and Nolimit City are for players who accept long dry spells for very large top prizes.
Who owns NetEnt and Big Time Gaming?
Both belong to Evolution, which bought NetEnt in 2020 and Big Time Gaming in 2021, then Nolimit City in 2022. The studios kept their own names and styles.
Do all casinos pay the same RTP on the same game?
Not always. Several studios release a game in more than one RTP version and the casino chooses which to run. The game's help screen shows the figure that applies.
What is the biggest live casino provider?
Evolution, which produces live roulette, blackjack, baccarat and game shows such as Crazy Time and Lightning Roulette.
