Where Unibet is stronger

Unibet launched its first website in 1999, added live betting in 2003 and a mobile site in 2004, which puts it among the earliest online betting brands in Europe. For years it was the flagship of Kindred Group, listed in Stockholm; in October 2024 Kindred was acquired by La Française des Jeux, now FDJ United. Being part of a large group listed on the Paris stock exchange and regulated in several countries is a form of solidity smaller operators cannot match.

The product is a genuine all-rounder: sport, casino, poker and bingo behind one login. For somebody who dips into all four, a single account and a single verification is a real convenience.

The Irish licence, and the sister brand on it

Unibet was not in the first wave of Irish licences on 1 July 2026. The GRAI register lists Platinum Gaming Limited, with trading names 32Red and Unibet, holding remote betting licence GRAI-0890-RB-26-0001 issued on 11 September 2026 — among the most recent entries in the register as updated on 21 September.

Note the second name. 32Red and Unibet sit on the same licence, so switching from one to the other keeps you with the same licensee. As with any GRAI licence issued so far, this one covers remote betting; gaming licences for casino products are due to open for applications in 2027 and 2028.

Why Unibet customers look around

• Depth over breadth. An all-rounder has to share its attention between four products; a casino-first site spends all of it on one.
• Live tables at the right stakes. What matters is how many tables are open at your stake at nine in the evening, not the total on the lobby banner.
• Offers. Under the 2024 Act, licensed operators are moving away from inducements. Casino players who like a first-deposit match find fewer of them at the big bookmakers.

Counting a catalogue honestly

Big lobbies advertise big numbers, and those numbers are rarely comparable. Some count every variant and stake level of a live table separately; some list the same slot twice under different categories. Keeping two accounts in order

There is no need to close Unibet to try a casino elsewhere. Keep the licensed account for sport and poker if you like them there, open the casino separately, and give each its own deposit limit on the first day. Verify the new account before you need a withdrawal, and decide before depositing whether you want the welcome match at all.

One brand, two very different rules

Unibet is a useful example of how much the same brand can change from one country to the next. In France, where it has been FDJ United's single online brand for sport and poker since the spring of 2026, the site offers no casino at all: French licences do not cover slots or roulette online. In Ireland the casino tab is there, and the GRAI licence it holds is for betting, with gaming licences still to come.

For a player the lesson is simple. A brand name tells you who the group is; it does not tell you what a particular country's site offers, how its welcome offer works or which licence covers which product. Try before you deposit
